TALK ABOUT LAGOS- "EKO ONI BAJE O"

Being an advocate for enviomental protection will open your eyes to current issues that affects our enviroments,we have to take decisive actions that will make
our environment sustainable(making it safer for the future generation)

Lagos as we know it is surrounded by water, making it unique and the pride of the nation,
Lagos serves as the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria accounting for over 60 percent
Of Nigeria's income,Lagos is precious and we love it,it is a land of opportunity where graduates troops to in order to make a living, but imagine if we wake up one day and there is no Lagos anymore,it is not surprising to note that Lagos is just three meters above sea level,we know that lagos is not an alien to flooding and rising sea level.

Global warming caused by emission og green house gases specifically Carbon dioxide causes (ice melting, expands the sea, erodes the beaches, coastal area sinking, flooding, and erosion, affecting
human settlements,increased storm).

According to an article in WWW.ciesin.columbia.edu"although the level of sea level amount to only a few milimeter per year and may be small, this phenomenon plays a big role in expanding erosion processes affecting most of the low-lying coastline in the world"(Lagos included)

Our human activities in a lot of ways contribute to the rise in seal level, these activities include:bush burning, cutting down trees,in the name of urban development.Buildings have taken over where we are suppose to have trees that will protect us,we cut down trees without planting another. Please spread the word it is important we protect our enviroment.

I see lagos with a sustainable enviroment, free from the effects of climate change, with citizens sensitive enough to protect their enviroment from harm.

Thank you

Climate Change,Food Crises and the Nigerian Economy

Some say there is no food on my table and you ask me to pay attention to my enviroment, well the answer to such people is that if they don't pay attention, they will have less food on their table because enviromental issues contribute largely to global food crises.

We have to pay attention to the fact that as the climate gets warmer the incidence of flooding, ice melting increases thereby making it impossible for agricultural produce to thrive.According to the New York Times(the opinion pages)-rain-fed agriculture in some African countries may decrease by 50 Percent by 2020 because of climate change.

It is certain that the worst hit by climate change are the less priviledge, women and children these are set of people that are less able to take care of themselves in challenging situations,Climate change is like a war that needs to be fought and won,in order to protect the vulnerable populace.

The average Nigerian lives on less than a dollar a day,now tell me when the incidence of food crises thrives in our nation ,how will the common man survrive?won't this lead to more crimes in our cities? won't we spend more to protect our lives and properties?

Its a vicious cycle that needs to be stopped,we have to join hands together and live responsibly in order to protect our enviroment.
